The Power of15 Minutes.
The task looming in front of you seems insurmountable.
You're a bit of a perfectionist, so it's all or nothing.
Plus add a scoop of guilt or anxiety over the fact you know you should have started.
WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO YOURSELF, FRIENDS?
The largest or most unenjoyable projects might seem ominous, but in fact can be quite easy to start. You just have to start them.
PERFECTION IS NOT THE GOAL. GETTING THE FIRST STEP DONE IS.
Try this. Tell yourself the following,
"In 15 minutes I can make a list of the things I need to do, read, research for this project."
Set a timer and go!
NEXT, LAYOUT A TIMELINE
15 minutes again? Yes, 15 minutes to think through a timeline for the thing you are procrastinating.
VOILA!
No 'real' work or anything too challenging. Just 2 steps broken into 15 minute sprints.
15 minutes is more than enough time for me to get organized.
In only 15 minutes, I can set up a list to tackle this project.
In only 15 minutes, I can pull the documents I need to get started.
In 5 minutes, I can jot down the names of all people who can and will help with this project and how they could contribute.
Although the first step is historically the hardest, make it the easiest by minimizing it in your mind. 'It's only!' 'In only', in less than....and so on.
One of the biggest hurdles and breakthroughs are the decision to simply start. Make it your decision to do it in an easy, 'chewable bites' fashion, that's all.
Timing is everything. There are times when procrastination means missing a much more important opportunity than a task.
Are you ready not to get started?
It will only take 15 minutes!
