I am frequently asked questions about traveling for work. Over the years I have found my own ways to keep it predictable and somewhat enjoyable.
My personal tongue-in-cheek tagline however is 'Travel... it's fancy!' lol
I took an inordinate amount of pleasure in watching this video that Kayne Grau was so kind to share.
Even funnier is for those of my fellow travel warriors out there who recognize I instantly... oh, it's clear this is a Marriott property! :-) I know that carpet and these fabrics ... 'That Chair' and those coffee makers and packets all too well.
Happy fancy travels to all of you who get on the road and do that which everyone either cannot or will not do. And please try not to have too much fun with this video. I would not recommend showing this to the nice person behind the counter at your next hotel check in... especially if you want to the cleanest room!

A winter storm event in Charlotte is a great excuse for me to spend this Sunday morning enjoying one of my favorite guilty pleasures... I'll have to shelter in place and sink into the latest edition of #VanityFair which features another one of my favorites... #LinManuelMiranda! In a few short minutes I'll have yet another favorite CBS Sunday Morning on in the background raising and lowering the volume as the stories capture my interest. Perfect, perfect morning.
The rain and sleet are coming quite heavily, and it is beginning to freeze, so I'll enjoy the daylight and my power while we have them.
Hoping you enjoy your Sunday, whatever the weather.

Privileged to catch a bit of the ceremonies for President George H.W. Bush this afternoon. I cannot keep up with the incredible things being said about his character, his sayings and advice...but the one I want to share right at this moment is this:
"He looked for the good in each person, and he usually found it."
There are many more to share, but for today, let's all remember this and use the great example of a life well-lived in our thoughts, words and actions in our work and at home.
Thank you for the great life and leadership. You will be dearly missed, #41.

'Adversity distorts reality, but crystallizes the truth.'
There were several key points I and the group were able to take away from Klyn Elsbury's talk today, but this one was especially poignant for me.
Our business can be wonderful, rewarding, challenging and frightening, sometimes even on the same day! We may not be able to control some of the events that come our way, but we can still navigate it well if our operating principles are clearly established.
It starts with Purpose.
Know why you are here, what you want to accomplish for others and be ready to stay focused.
Adversity will come, it always does. But see the Truth in it and declare your Truth.
Be passionate, gather your village, do the work and derive greater pleasure from your efforts than you imagined possible.
I'm so grateful for the entire team at NCM Associates and their ongoing efforts to offer the best support in the industry.
Thank you Paul Anton Faletti Jr. (Paton), Trevor Robinson, Skye Nguyen, Brandiss Drummer, Tom Richards and all at NCM for including us in such a terrific event with the team.

After quite a bit of travel recently, I decided it was time again to clean and condition a few of the pieces that have been with me for hundreds, maybe 1000s of trips. It's incredible the memories that come along as I think about this #Tumi work bag and all the people and places that we have met and enjoyed.
Yes, it's an inanimate object, but it's a vital piece of my work life and has sat on desks, planes, hotel rooms and ' go ahead, put it on that chair right over there' all over.
When someone tries to be nice and lift it for me, the comment is always "holy cow that's heavy, what do you have in there?"
I have everything in there possible to be ready for meeting you. Because when you travel like this, you have to come prepared. I'm more astonished than anything that it doesn't collapse under the weight! Laptops, folders , papers, Today's Wall Street Journal (and yesterday's also!), That article that I read that I wanted to share with you after reading it again on the plane, cords, a random thumb drive, emergency make up/toiletry supplies, 3 different flavors of tea that I never seem to remember are in here... And almost always a book even though it's too heavy and it barely fits.
Thanks Tumi...and thanks to each of you.
We'll see you soon!

Thanksgiving 'Day'
Today should be no different at the core of it.
Every day should include starting and ending with gratitude and looking for those moments in between to express it and share it.
This day is simply an opportunity to share those thoughts liberally with those closest to us around a larger table. Looking those you love in the eye and sharing thanks...Over green bean casserole and endless desserts and laughter.
Enjoy and appreciate the travel to your gathering. You get to do this. Others don't.
Find joy in the chaos.
If it's a quiet holiday for you, enjoy the memories, the planning, the phone calls.
Enjoy the clean up, wherever you are. Toss those suds! Conversations that happen over doing dishes can quickly turn in to important moments.
And in the midst of your spirit of gratitude, thank yourself. You've come a long way this year. You helped a lot of people in so many ways. You help your company by becoming a greater asset. You worked hard to provide more value to yourself and others every day. Thank you, You!
So join me today in my ongoing commitment to be grateful for each moment without a holiday requiring us to do.
I will close by saying how grateful I am for you and endlessly inspired by you. Thank you.
Happy every day and a very happy Thanksgiving.

It is always disappointing to see a leader falter. This is especially disconcerting after the difficulty that Mr. Ghosn and Nissan had placed on their dealership owners to stay profitable and competitive.
We lost the irreplaceable Sergio Marchionne earlier this year, Ghosn is gone, Ford leadership has changed hands...Hyundai did also, but not a surprise any more.
Just when you think that things...and leaders... won't change- everything changes. Stay the course, stay sharp, stay committed to what is next in our incredible Automotive industry. Your leadership is more important now than ever.

One of the most exceptional groups of people I've ever had the opportunity to work alongside. Here you see NCM Associates' own Steve Hall walking the DHG dealerships team through Fixed Operations. Both companies are making every effort to ensure every one of their customers has every possible advantage. If you are one of our customers, we hope you know that this joint venture was started with you in mind.
Much more to come...stay tuned!

A powerful gathering is taking place this week.
@DHG Dealerships' team of CPA Partners and Senior Managers is heading to NCM Associates in Kansas City.
Through the Joint Venture, both companies are expanding the support and services we can offer our clients.
Two companies you know and respect, teaming up to give out customers every possible advantage in a marketplace full of challenges.
When you get some of the best and brightest in the industry together, anything is possible.
If you are currently a client, be sure to ask your connection how this will help your stores.
We are #BetterTogether.

The race is on in the clouds as we head home tonight.
We'll all be on the ground in a matter of minutes now no matter who wins, but I do think we've got this by a nose!
To the dozens and dozens of people I had the pleasure of seeing this week at DSES and AICPA- I enjoyed every single one of the intriguing conversations. And a big thanks for your support of the work we are embarking on.
Wishing you safe, smooth and swift travels no matter how you're all heading home this weekend.
